The British Council - The English in Britain Accreditation Scheme
The aim of the English in Britain Scheme is to protect international students studying or planning to study English as a foreign language in the UK by offering access to a range of services which meet agreed quality standards.
The standards set by the Scheme are agreed through consultation with members and the professional organisations (English UK, formerly ARELS and BASELT) which represent them.
The objectives of the Scheme are:
- To include within its membership all eligible UK English Language Teaching (ELT) provider organisations which meet Scheme standards
- To gain widespread recognition in ELT market countries of the value of the 'accredited by the British Council' marque
- To help to increase the UK's share of the ELT market by ensuring that the experience of international students at accredited organisations in the UK reinforces the UK's reputation for quality ELT provision
- To contribute to the continuing development of quality ELT services in the UK by offering providers relevant information, guidelines and recommendations for improving their services
- To contribute to the development of reputable quality assurance systems for foreign language provision worldwide by encouraging the exchange of information on best practice
- To actively promote within the UK the value of quality ELT provision, the Accreditation Scheme and the 'accredited by the British Council' marque.
The Scheme ensures that students studying with accredited ELT providers receive agreed standards of service in the areas inspected by the Scheme and provides a system of redress where these standards are not met.
ENGLISH UK
BABSSCo is a member of ENGLISH UK which is the leading association of independent English language teaching establishments in Britain recognised by the British Council. All members have been inspected for the quality of their teaching, their facilities, their accommodation services and their welfare provision for students. In addition, its members are obliged to abide by the Association's strictly enforced Code of Practice and Regulations.
