Course Leader Job Description
BABSSCo runs courses for two sets of students: ‘B Course’ students, aged 13-17, at Harrow School, and ‘A Course’ students, aged 8-12, at Mill Hill School. The requirements of the Course Leader job will vary depending on which age group you are assigned to. The following information gives a general overview of the job. English lessons generally take place in the mornings, with scheduled activities and excursions in the afternoons and evenings. EFL lessons are taught by qualified and experienced EFL teachers.
Each student is placed under the supervision of a designated Course Leader, who is a senior and experienced member of staff. Many Course Leaders may already have worked as Activities Helpers for a number of years. Activities Helpers are employed to assist and work alongside the Course Leaders to undertake the daily care and supervision of the students participating in the courses.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
- Overall pastoral and logistical responsibility for a given group of students
- Overseeing and implementing the daily schedule of the course, in close liaison with the Summer School office
- Managing a small team of Activities Helpers
- Keeping petty cash accounts as required by the Course Director
- Assisting the Course Director in the smooth running of the courses in general.
- Assisting in the collection and transfer of students from London airports and rail termini
- Leading and supervising students on all on-site and off-site activities
- Leading in activities when appropriate
- Performing other general duties as directed and required by the Course Director. All staff are required to be cooperative and flexible
- During period of employment, you must be contactable by mobile at all times

| Hours of Work |
Generally, working hours will span the period 07:30-21:00. However, a large degree of flexibility is expected. A staff rota is posted in the Course Office detailing daily and weekly work schedules for each member of staff. Regular time off will be given during the working week. A maximum of 70 hours work per week is anticipated, although this may vary from week to week. |

Paid Holiday Entitlement will be given during the period of employment at the rate of approximately one day for every week worked. Holiday dates will be determined in advance by the Course Director. |

It is the post holder’s responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact and to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School s/he must report any concerns to the Head of Department or the School’s Child Protection Officer. |
